    Students and Parents
    This curriculum guide should be of valuable assistance in planning your high school program. This booklet should answer many questions concerning course offerings and course selections for the coming school year. Please read this thoroughly, for it is of utmost importance that you make the proper selections for college preparation or vocational prep. A logical choice of subjects is to take the most demanding courses that the student can handle to develop a sound educational foundation to prepare you for college or the work force.
    In order to graduate from Ottoville High School, students need to:
    Pass W(Writing)R(Reading)M(Math)C(Citzenship)S(Science) of OGT Test
    4 Credits of English
    3 Credits of Math
    3 Credits of Science
    3 Credits of Social Studies
    .5 Credits of Health
    .5 Credits of Physical Education
    7 Credits of local requirements & electives = 21 Total Credits


    Curriculum Standards
    The standards used in this guide are those established by:
    1. The Ohio High School "minimum" Standards adopted in 1998 within which all public high schools in the state of Ohio must operate.
    2. Rules established by the Ottoville Local Board of Education and prescribed in the Minimum Standards of 1999.


    Student Load
    1. The minimum class load each year is 6 units. No student may register for fewer than 6 units of credit each semester. Full credit units meet five periods per week and require outside homework.
    2. Non-academic subjects caring .25 units of credit (except required P.E.) are to be carried in addition to the basic 6 units.
    3. Students who lack enough units of credit to be classified as fourth year (Senior) students may seek the approval of the principal or counselor to carry additional unit of credit.
    4. The final responsibility for a student’s program planning lies with the students and his/her parent(s). Counseling and advice will always be available, but the individual pupil must be aware of his/ her future needs and objectives to meet his/her educational goals.


    General Entrance Requirements For Post-High School Education
    4 Years English
    3 Years Math (Algebra I, II, Geometry, Advanced Math)
    3 Years Social Studies (World Studies I, Amer. Gov’t, World Studies II, Civics)
    3 Years Science (PEC, Biology, Chemistry, Action Science, Anatomy, or Physics
    2-3 Years Foreign Language (Most schools require this, many are highly recommending 4.)
    1 Year of Fine or Performing Arts

    Nursing Schools
    Anatomy
    Biology
    Chemistry
    Physics (some schools require)
    Algebra I, II, and/or Geometry, (Advanced Math –required by some schools)

    Business Schools
    High School Diploma
    Courses (Keyboarding, Accounting, Computers)
    Some are recommending at least Algebra I

    Technical and Vocational Schools
    Electronics—Need Algebra I (some schools Geometry)
    Drafting
    Tool and Die
    Vocational Programs (High School subjects for graduation)
    Industrial Technology
    Mechanical Drawing
    (Required subject depends on your area of study. Any vocational subject will be of assistance.)

    Courses of Study

    Ottoville offers two basic courses of study. These are suggested courses of study and are meant to serve as guides for scheduling. In most cases a course of study is recommended as a best selection for those interested in that particular type of field of work. It is the intent and desire of the faculty and administration that each student select that program which most nearly affords him/her the education that will be of greatest value and do him/her the most good in a career.

    1. Academic Course-----Designed for students who plan to continue with additional formal education in institutions of higher learning.

    Freshman
    Algebra 1, PEC Science, Physical Education 9/Health, English 9,French 1, Careers/Adv. Computer Art 1(Civics if any possibility of attending Vantage)
    Sophomores
    Algebra II, Biology/Adv. Biology, French II, World Studies,Adv. English 10, Physical Education 10
    Juniors
    Geometry, English 11, World Studies II, Chemistry, French III
    Seniors
    Pre-Calculus, English 12, Government, Physics, Trigonometry and Statistics, French IV, Senior Technology

    Industrial Technology, Home Economics, Accounting, Band, Business/Personal Finance (These courses courses should be worked in throughout your 4 years of high school)

    2. Vocational Course-----Designed to offer a student a concentration of course work in a selected vocation (Home Ec., Ind. Tech). These courses give students experience, training, and knowledge of basic skills needed for employment in these areas.

    Freshman
    Math I, PEC Science, Physical Education/Health, English 9, Art I, Today’s Living or Industrial Tech I, Civics (if planning on attending Vantage) Careers and Adv. Computer.
    Sophomore
    Math II or Algebra I, Biology, World Studies, English 10, Physical Education 10, Industrial Tech 11, Business-Personal Finance.
    Junior
    Vantage Vocational School offers the following course selections:

    Credits Neccessary for Class Rank
    To be classified in a given level or class at the beginning of the school year, the following units of credit are required:
    Freshman (9th Grade) - Complete 8th grade
    Sophomore (10th Grade - Complete 4.5 units
    Junior (11th Grade) - Complete 9 units
    Senior (12th Grade) - Complete 14.5 units


    Failure of Grade Level Required Courses
    Any student failing required course work will be expected to make up such work as early as possible in his course schedule. Any courses needed to be made up in after school classes are at the student/parent expense.

  • Fine Arts Requirement
    Art I - 1 unit of credit--class must have text, and teacher must assign homework
    Art II - 1 unit of credit--class must have text, and teacher must assign homework
    Art III/Independent – 1 unit of credit--class must have text, or students are in class more than scheduled five days per week.
    Art IV/Independent - 1 unit of credit--class must have text, or students are in class more than scheduled five days per week.
    Chorus - .25 unit of credit
    Marching Band - 1 unit of credit
    Total time members of marching band meet 200 min. a week.
